A signaling fault caused all signals to turn to red at about 1:10pm.  Five passenger services and five freight trains were shutdown between York and Northallerton.  There were delays across the country.  A temporary fix restored service to 10 stationary trains, but other trains were cancelled or disrupted.  Many passengers were stuck on the trains for hours.

Both passenger and freight trains were shutdown resulting in Delays and cancellations of train schedules.
