Paperless Chart Recorder Software Hacked

Several installations of paperless chart recorders started to exhibit faults, like “going to sleep” or cyclic rebooting.  The recorders were exchanged with spares and returned them to the manufacturer.  There was no improvement in reliability.  It was discovered that the chart recorders contained a game based on the movie “Hunt for Red October”.  The game could not be deleted from the firmware, only locked out from the Operators.  After “lock-out”, reliability seemed to improve, but faults were never completely eliminated.  Sellarfeld decided to change the recorders for another make.
