COSCO ransomware attack

In July 2018 COSCO Shipping Lines suffered a ransomware attack that disrupted email, telephone, and electronic data-interchange systems at its US, Canadian, and parts of Latin American operations. COSCO's vessel-tracking and global mainframe operations remained online by isolating affected regional networks.

Customers were instructed to contact COSCO via WhatsApp and Yahoo Mail during the outage. Cargo handling continued, but bookings and documentation faced multi-day delays in the affected regions.
