Description
Between August and September 2013, Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)–affiliated actors gained unauthorised access to the SCADA system of the Bowman Avenue Dam in Rye Brook, New York. Seven Iranian nationals were indicted by the US DOJ in 2016 for the intrusion as part of a broader campaign against US financial-sector and infrastructure targets.
Impact
The intruders obtained read-only access to dam status and sluice-gate information. The sluice gate happened to be offline for maintenance during the access window, preventing potential physical actuation. No water release or downstream effects occurred.
