Cyber attack on Israels water system

Beginning April 2020 multiple Israeli water and wastewater facilities reported attempted cyber attacks against PLCs controlling pump stations and chemical dosing. The Israel National Cyber Directorate publicly attributed the activity to Iranian state-aligned actors and warned operators to change passwords on internet-exposed assets.

No water-quality incidents resulted; alarms detected attempted parameter changes and operators reverted them. Several international cyber-physical responses to this campaign were publicly reported, including a July 2020 Israeli-attributed incident at the Iranian port of Shahid Rajaee.
