Description

Night Dragon was a multi-year campaign documented by McAfee in February 2011 targeting global oil, gas, and petrochemical companies. Attackers used spear-phishing, SQL injection, and remote-administration tools to exfiltrate operational details, project bid documents, and SCADA configuration data from at least five energy companies.

Impact

Sensitive proprietary information about field operations, financial documents related to oil and gas field bids, and SCADA system data were exfiltrated. McAfee assessed the activity as originating in China.
