Description
On May 9, 2020, the Shahid Rajaee port in Bandar Abbas — Iran's largest container terminal — was disrupted by a cyber attack that paralysed the terminal-operating system, causing days of road and waterway congestion. Foreign-government officials, speaking anonymously to The Washington Post, attributed the attack to Israel as retaliation for the April 2020 attempts on Israeli water utilities.
Impact
Container operations at Shahid Rajaee were severely degraded for several days, with long road queues at the port entrance and ships waiting offshore. Iran publicly acknowledged a 'temporary' disruption to port systems.
